I got diagnosed with 2 slip discs and was advised to never exercise lifting weights or doing any sort of complex exercises ever again, leave alone bending or twisting my back in various ways.
I used to have a severe lower back pain and then the pain seemed to spread in the upper back too.
Due to hours of travelling to my office in bus and then sitting for hours at the desk during my IT days, I had developed the famous "Back pain for desk jobs".
I thought I needed more movement and joined a gym, doing "functional training" and also started lifting heavy. With a bad understanding of what I was doing I just jumped in and the situation worsened.
I got diagnosed with 2 slip discs and was advised to never exercise lifting weights or doing any sort of complex exercises ever again, leave alone bending twisting my back in various ways.
I tried all the different things I was recommended - Orthos, Physios, Alternate medicines, you know the rest of the list.
One thing which really intrigued me during these visits was that, my issue wasn't as severe as I thought it to be.
I definitely couldn't do major complex moves, but I had started fearing moving so much that I wouldn't even try moving more than a few degrees around my joints.
After my stint at different places of "healing" I finally decided to study and address this part of my life. I couldn't just give up by listening to what others told me to do. I had to listen to my body and understand it.
As I studied more and more I realised how much my body felt abused. It is through this research that I developed my own method of Body Intelligence.
I now not only can move in ways I was advised never to do, but I also live with a pain free back. I am more aware of my limitations and understand my gradual progress every single session.
Do you also have a back pain? Let me know, maybe we could address it together, one step at a time?
Let's understand, rather than think that we understand.
Don't imitate. Evolve.
